The research comprises several core areas in dermatology and the main long-term projects include genetic epidemiologic studies in chronic inflammatory skin diseases, focusing on psoriasis. We explore the role of human cathelicidin peptide LL37 in epithelial biology and the function of several recently identified microRNAs of relevance for chronic inflammation and skin biology.

The skin can be considered to be a mirror of the soul. Light from the outside world passes through the layers of epidermal cells, the first line of immune defenses, and then interacts with the neuroendocrine system. The dynamic interactions between these two extensive systems involve many molecules, among which serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine; 5-HT) and the tachykinin family may be of major importance.
