What is the clinical relevance? Study of the lipid abnormalities of common chronic diseases at target cells rather than in blood and the relationship with genes regulating lipid metabolism promotes an understanding of the causes of these diseases.

Which techniques do we use? ToF-SIMS (time of flight secondary ion) imaging mass spectrometry, a variant of mass spectrometry with high spatial resolution, especially suited for imaging and measurement of tissue lipids, combined with fluorescence confocal microscopy, in-situ hybridization, Real-time PCR, immunohistochemistry and common histological techniques.
