Leukocyt-endotel interaktioner i kärlväggen – Eriksson

Inflammatory recruitment of blood cells to the vascular wall is of importance in large vessel pathology including atherosclerosis, arthritis, and intimal hyperplasia in response to vascular intervention. We use various microscopic techniques on live mice and whole mount tissues to study the mechanisms that guide transition of leukocytes from free flow to extravasation. At present, our interest is focused on: 1) the role of micro vessels in atherosclerosis for leukocyte invasion to plaque, 2) the invasion and pathological roles of neutrophils in atherosclerosis, and 3) the role of leukocyte recruitment in the development of vein graft intimal hyperplasia. We hope that our work will elucidate controversial aspects of vascular pathology and provide clues to identifying novel targets for therapeutic intervention.
