To scientifically study the health aspects of a population and propagation is called epidemiology. In large population registries you are able to study both genetic inheritance and a wide variety of environmental factors and by assessing different statistic methods you can evaluate risks or protective effects of the factors investigated. The Swedish tradition of personal numbers, registries of different kinds and bio banks makes us in the international forefront of epidemiology studies.
