A zoom link will be sent to you after signing up.

The Grant Writing Workshop is initiative supported by the CMM Steering Group and lead by Eduardo Villablanca. It is addressed to junior faculties and postdocs that are writing their research proposal for the upcoming calls (VR, ERC, KID, WAF, etc.). The main goal is to improve the grant proposal to make it more competitive. Participants will have the opportunity to learn how to write and improve the first page of their grants and to participate in mock grant review sessions. Participant will also have the opportunity to learn how to communicate efficiently in the specific aims by using graphical abstracts.

NOTE: You are invited to discuss your grant abstract, first page, graphical abstract etc. from 11AM to noon. We will assign 15 individual slots to those who email asking for it (first come first served) eduardo.villablanca@ki.se . It If you want to book 15 minutes, then it is not  required to attend the first 2 hours (although you are more than welcome!)

In summary:

·         We will have informal sessions to discuss the “first page” of any grant proposal. We analyze sections of the abstract such as problem construction, how to solve it, clarity of the question and solution and remove unnecessary sentences.

·         If there are no grant to discuss we will have workshops on “how to prepare your graphical abstract” - from 11-noon

·         Sessions every other month to discuss how grants are evaluated in study sessions. This will help trainees to get experience in how to review grants and how to write grants having the reviewer in mind

·         Participants will be assigned a reviewer role and will review a grant and participate in a mock study section to decide on a score for the grant and recommend funding.

Every session will have a duration of 3 hours (group discussion, 2 h; one-on-one, 1h). However, participants might need to read applications before the session.

These regular sessions are recommended for junior faculties who are ready to write their first ERC-stg, VR, KID, etc. However, senior scientists that would like to discuss their consolidators or research project grant are more than welcome. There are limited spots so we will give priority to those CMMers, who are writing a proposal with a relatively close deadline. In order to make it easy to share your ideas, we will divide the working groups depending on your position.

The grant workshop initiative will run for the entire year (Feb 2020 to Feb 2021) and will be open to suggestions for improvement. Please, find the  upcoming dates (9/12, 27/1) and sign up when you feel ready to share and discuss your proposal. In the case we do not receive enough proposals to be discussed, we will talk about tips on how to improve your proposal.

Welcome!

Eduardo Villablanca
