Jakob Wikström Receives Research Environment Grant from the Swedish Research Council
We congratulate Associate Professor and CMM Team Leader Jakob Wikström who received a research environment grant within clinical therapy research from the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) amounting to a total of SEK 11 301 000 during four years.
The purpose of the grant is to support clinical therapy studies directed at meeting the needs of health and medical care and are expected to lead to patient and societal benefit within a relatively short period of time. The Swedish Research Council rewards research of the highest scientific quality in national competition.
Jakob Wikström’s research is focused on the mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum in wound healing and rare skin conditions. Darier’s disease, is one of those rare genetic skin conditions studied by Jakob and his team. It is caused by disrupted calcium homeostasis in the endoplasmic reticulum. The granted project is titled “A clinical trial for dantrolene sodium in adult patients with Darier’s disease”.
