Liv Eidsmo Recruited as Director for International Skin Research Center

Liv Eidsmo, Group Leader at CMM, was recently appointed Professor at the University of Copenhagen and Executive Director at the LEO Foundation Skin Immunology Research Center (SIC).

With her broad experience as a researcher, clinician and leader, she was recruited to meet the translational research demands at SIC with the ambition of creating a leading international center for skin research. Starting in 2021, Liv Eidsmo will work part-time at CMM and part-time at the University of Copenhagen and her research group will be moving between the two labs.

Skin diseases of various kinds affect approximately one in four people, and contribute to a significantly lowered quality of life in many cases. Disease mechanisms driving those conditions remain largely undiscovered.

Through her research, Liv has previously defined functionally distinct subsets of tissue resident memory T (Trm) cells in healthy skin. Her research group will now further focus their investigations on the role of those resident T cells in driving the local recurrence of diseases such as psoriasis and vitiligo.

By conducting her research part-time at Karolinska Institutet and CMM and part-time at the University of Copenhagen, Liv Eidsmo will be able to benefit both research centers, by bringing in for instance new knowledge and potential collaborations.
