Sweden’s innovation agency Vinnova extends the funding of Genomic Medicine Sweden with additional SEK 36 million

Sweden’s innovation agency Vinnova extends the funding of the national initiative Genomic Medicine Sweden (GMS) with an additional SEK 36 million in order to enable individualized healthcare solutions. The new technology allows more patients to receive the appropriate treatment at the right time. The collaboration between healthcare, industry and academia will contribute to strengthen Sweden´s position as an attractive country for innovation and clinical research writes Vinnova in the press release on July 2^nd.

Genomic Medicine Sweden (GMS) was founded in 2018 with the aim of translating innovation in genomics into clinical practice and implementing a sustainable infrastructure for precision medicine in Sweden. CMM Group Leader Professor Richard Rosenquist Brandell is the Director of GMS.

Vinnova has continuously funded the GMS initiative, and now expands the funding by an additional SEK 36 million for the remaining of 2020 and all of 2021. Additional co-funding of SEK 52 million will also be added from the participating seven regions with University Hospitals, and the corresponding seven Universities Medical Faculties. The funding will continue to contribute to implementation of precision medicine into healthcare, and further strengthen Swedish research enabling new research and innovation collaborations between industry, healthcare and academia.

We congratulate Professor Richard Rosenquist Brandell and colleagues for their fantastic work, the additional funding to support GMS and the implementation of precision medicine in healthcare.
